Insurance Matters, by Company

Each insurance company has its own way of doing business.  Find your company below for specifics on how your coverage is handled with me.  When choosing a provider, it is always important to consider whether I am considered "in-network" or "preferred" by your insurance, because that usually means that your out-of-pocket expense is less and your hassle is less.  I always recommend that you contact your insurance company and ask about your mental health benefits and whether I am on the provider list.  If I am not a provider for your insurance, I will still be able to provide you with a bill which you can then turn in for reimbursement.  Most insurance companies reimburse for 40-70% of my fees.  (If you want more information about my Rates, click here).

If you're in the group that has to deal with your insurance company,  I'll back you up as much as possible.  We'll make calls from my office if necessary (although we'll have to use your time to do so).  If this becomes unworkable for you, I'll help you try to transition to another provider who does bill your insurance.  If the insurance company's reimbursement rate is low because I'm not "on their panel", ask who is on the panel in your area.  Call that provider's office to see how long it takes to get in.  If there is no other psychologist with the areas of expertise you need whom you could see, realistically, you might be able to protest the reimbursement rate, and I might be able to help with that.

Great West/Value Options Cigna United Healthcare
MVIPA Lifewise United Behavioral Health
PacificSource Medicare Value Behavioral Health
Blue Cross/Blue Shield  (Regence) ODS/OEA All other plans

Please note that for all these companies, you must make sure your deductible has been met, if there is one.  Your share of the fee will be due at the time of service.  Otherwise I'll end up having to bill you later, and I will charge my hourly rate for:  a) figuring out that your insurance is not paying, and why;  and b) billing you directly later.   That will cost you about $30.
